The Checkered Flag Drops on the Indianapolis 500

Calling all NASCAR fans! The Indianapolis 500 will be racing into Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill tomorrow, Sunday, May 26that 9am!

Track Conditions

This is the 103rdyear of the Indy 500, one of the biggest NASCAR events of the year. The competition is tight and weather predictions say there will be a chance of rain and storms at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that day. This will make the race more dangerous and the excitement more intense for the drivers as they compete to be the first to cross the finish line on the 2 1/2-mile oval track.

The Indy 500 2019 Lineup

This year there are 36 entries that will vie for 33 spots at the starting line. In the first round of testing on April 24thRahal Letterman Lanigan’s Takuma Sato came in as the fastest, registering 226.993mph. He’s got strong competition, though, as rookie Colton Herta registered the fastest speed of 218.690mph.

Updates to the Cars

Racers will be more secure in their cars this year with the IndyCar’s new Advanced Frontal Protection device. It’s a titanium metal piece that has been added to the centerline of every car and positioned in front of the cockpit. It’s designed to deflect debris away from the heads of drivers during a wreck. For some driver it’s been an unwelcome distraction, for other it has gone unnoticed. We’ll see how the drivers of the Indy 500 handle this upgrade.
