Swim! Swim for Your Lives! A Sharknado Triple Feature is Coming to Greeley Grindhouse.

Greeley - Sharknado

The time has come for another great Greeley Grindhouse showing by movie maestro, Mac Bell. He’s taking it to another level this month by presenting all three “Sharknado” movies all on one night. Come for one and stay for all!

 Greeley - Sharknado1

Sharknado

What would you do if a tornado carrying sharks arrived in your town? B-Movie actors and 1990 pop stars, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid find out when an epic storm hits Los Angeles and brings with it dazed, confused and hungry sharks.

Sharknado 2: The Second One

Same storm, same actors, same plot. This time taking a big bite out of the Big Apple. Do you think Al Roker can save them?

Sharknado 3, Oh Hell No!

See above, add in the entire Eastern Seaboard and cameos galore! I’m hoping they use Ann Coulter as chum.

Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill hosts Greeley Grindhouse every month, with film historian Mac Bell emceeing the best in cult and B-movies of every genre and from every decade, including July’s feature. “Sharknado is the perfect modern-day monster/disaster film. It’s got a strong cult following and I’m excited to watch the first three in the series with its hard-core fans. Especially, with the fourth installment set to premier on the Syfy network three days later.”

Nosferatu Orders Up A Pint (of Blood) at Greeley Grindhouse

Greeley - NosferatuHalloween might be over but the children of the night continue to rule when the 1922 horror classic Nosferatu searches for his next victim during another Greeley Grindhouse.

Filmed through the lens of the 1920s German Expressionism art movement, Nosferatu continues to be one of cinema’s most influential films. Ominous use of light and shadow, increasing film speed, and the main character’s exaggerated physical movement and freaky features create an unsettling version of Bram Stoker’s, Dracula that has influenced the horror genre for the last ninety years. As well as, keeping the creepy quotient high for Nosferatu viewers.

All the film’s greatest moments continue to be very impactful. Like Nosferatu meeting his first victim by floating through an arched doorway like he’s floating out of a casket, or the scene where his shadow draws down on the hapless real estate agent, Hatter. And, in one of film’s most iconic moments, his stiffly poised body rising from his coffin to feast on the crew of a cargo ship.

I hadn’t seen Nosferatu in years so I popped in the re-mastered blu-ray version and got to relive the fun of the undead man’s adventures one more time. The new hi-def version was much clearer, with few loose threads and splotches showing up in the film and the original color filters were added back in as a way to depict the times of day and give weight to the mood of each scene. For me it was easier to connect with the characters in this clearer version but, I have to say, I still have a fondness for the darker black and white film, too. So in the end, the blu-ray version offers a chance to re-experience this a classic movie in a new way. And I’m sure our resident film geeks will have fun arguing about which is better; the black and white or color version.

Join us at Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill next week on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:20pm when Greeley Grindhouse takes us on a creepy jaunt through the Transylvania woods to meet the blue-ray version of the classic horror film, Nosferatu.

Greeley Grindhouse Celebrates Three Years of “B” Movies

Greeley-notld-poster2Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill is gearing up for a great night to celebrate the third anniversary of “Greeley Grindhouse,” with a special repeat showing of our very first feature, “Night of the Living Dead.” It’s nothing but the best in “B” movies when Greeley Grindhouse lights up our big screen. Throughout the past three years notoriously bad sci-fi classics, like 1959’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” have taken their turn alongside action movies, like the 1967 spaghetti western, “Death Rides A Horse” and martial arts classic, “Street Fighter” (1974), and special holiday viewings of such theatrical disasters as 1964’s “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” (our Christmas special). And Greeley Avenue’s “Trash Talk TV” has provided us with a lot of great laughs and many harsh critiques but for our anniversary celebration the fun doesn’t stop there! Dig out your best zombie costumes to compete for one of our many prizes, including a copy of the official Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill “Night of the Living Dead” movie poster. And come hungry and thirsty because we’ll have special “zombie” editions to our food and drink menus. “Greeley Grindhouse has shown plenty of good “B” movies and a lot of just plain bad ones, and we’ve enjoyed them all,” says Mac Bell, Greeley Grindhouse host. Attack of the Greeley Grindhouse Movies!

Giant Gila Monster PosterNothing out of the sky, sea, or Earth could be more terrifying than the Greeley Grindhouse Movies!

When was the last time you sat in a bar with some good friends pounding down a few pints while laughing at a movie about a giant lizard? If this answer is never, then you’re in luck because Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill is here to serve your B movie needs at their Greeley Grindhouse movie screenings!

Every month the bar will be serving up another classic movie full of thrills, chills, and unintended laughs. Mac Bell, B movie guru and host, will offer trivia, history, and lead the talk on Greeley’s interactive “Smack TV,”  where viewers can text in their own jabs and jokes about the movie for the whole bar to see.

“Watching a crowd get into one of these films while enjoying the bar’s good food and drink is a blast. Unlike going to a movie at a local retro theater where you have to silence yourself and your cell phone throughout the course of the screening, the crowd gets to openly chat with the entire bar about what they’re seeing and comment on the film’s more absurd scenes.” – Mac Bell

“I love, love, love attending Greeley Grindhouse! Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill is always so welcoming to our oddball group, letting us watch really weird movies while enjoying their tasty burgers and tots. And the pudding shots, let’s not forget about those! The crowd is always so much fun and I especially enjoy reading the hilarious jabs people contribute to Smack TV. Nothing like live-action movie riffing!” – Greeley Grindhouse Fan – Emily McGrath Kersh

The next Greeley Grindhouse will take place on Thursday, January 15th at 7:20 PM with a screening of THE KILLER SHREWS (1959). You’ve been warned!
